3 min read · A calmer way to celebrate your baby
A baby shower can be beautiful without becoming an event production.
You do not need hundreds of balloons, elaborate themes, matching games and a room full of decorations that disappear the following morning.
The Owloo version is simpler:
good people, a beautiful setting and a few little things you will actually want to remember.
1. A garden brunch
Set one long table outside with simple linen, seasonal flowers and food people genuinely enjoy.
You can skip the traditional baby-shower colour palette entirely.
Use cream, olive, terracotta, natural wood or whatever already suits your style.
2. A tiny afternoon tea at home
A baby shower does not need 30 guests.
Invite six or eight people you actually want to spend time with.
Cake, tea, coffee, flowers and one afternoon together can feel more special than a large event where you barely have time to speak to anyone.
Owloo Thought
Do not plan the baby shower for the photographs.
Create a celebration you would enjoy even if nobody posted a single picture from it.
3. Create a letter-to-baby table
Leave beautiful blank cards and pens on a small table.
Ask each guest to write something for your baby:
- a wish;
- a piece of advice;
- a funny family story;
- something they hope to do together one day.
Place the cards in an envelope or memory box afterwards.
This is one baby-shower activity that becomes more valuable with time.
4. Ask everyone to bring one favourite children's book
Instead of another decorative gift, ask guests to bring a book they loved as a child.
They can write a short message inside the cover.
Your baby starts life with a tiny library filled with people and stories already connected to them.
5. Have a flower bar
Place a few buckets or vases of seasonal flowers on a table and let guests create a small bouquet to take home.
It doubles as decoration and a gentle activity without requiring organised games.
6. Make the food part of the decoration
Instead of buying extra props, create one beautiful table with cake, fruit, pastries, bread, drinks and flowers.
It feels relaxed, photographs beautifully and everything has a purpose.
7. Skip the games if you do not like games
You are allowed to simply sit, eat and talk.
If traditional baby-shower games make you uncomfortable, you do not need to replace them with something else.
Your guests came to celebrate you and your baby — not to complete an itinerary.
One Photo Worth Taking
Before everyone leaves, take one photograph with the people who came.
Years later, that may matter far more than a perfect photograph of the decorations.

Frequently asked questions
How many people should you invite to a baby shower?
There is no ideal number. A small gathering with your closest people can feel just as special as a large baby shower.
Do you need games at a baby shower?
No. Games are completely optional. A meal, conversation and one meaningful activity can be enough.
What is a good alternative to traditional baby shower games?
A letter-to-baby station, flower bar, shared photo or asking guests to bring a favourite children's book can create a relaxed activity without structured games.
How can I make a baby shower look modern?
Use a simple colour palette, natural materials, seasonal flowers and fewer decorations. Let the food, setting and people become the focus.
The Owloo approach
The best baby shower does not need to impress everyone who sees it online.
It only needs to feel good to the people who are actually there.
Less decoration. More connection. A celebration worth remembering.
